Metal detectorists and gold prospectors have one thing in common. They like finding gold and just like metal detecting, you will need some high quality tools if you want to be a successful gold prospector. Where can you find these tools? It’s not like you can just stroll into the local department store and grab s gold pan or a sluice box or any other gold prospecting equipment for that matter. You are going to have to research what you want and what you need. Here is a web site that will get you on the right track to finding more gold. Gold Prospecting Equipment.
Just like anything else, the more time you spend with something the better you get to know it and it is no different with metal detectors. Sometimes right out of the box they can be a little confusing. The only real way to learn how to use them is to go out and find some loot.
Eventually you will start to understand what your machine is trying to tell you. I have had my Minelab Excalibur for a while a now and the time I have spent learning how to use it has started to pay off.
I will admit my first few hunts with the Minelab Excalibur were not too impressive. I did not find much and I was a little frustrated with it. I was ready to go back to my trusty Tesoro Sand Shark, after all it was my first water machine and I found quite a bit of loot in a short time with it and I still plan on using it out deeper in the surf when the flat summer ocean arrives.
I found that the settings on my Minelab Excalibur were not quite right, so once I got them figured out it was time to learn what all of those different tones meant and that can be tricky.
I would recommend digging up everything at first until you become familiar with the sounds and overtime you will. You will hear the tone and go ohhh, that’s some foil or a bottle top and you can pass right over it and keeping looking for gold and silver.
My Minelab Excalibur has the stock ten inch coil and with the setting I use I have found rings at over a foot deep. In the very near future, I will be getting a larger 15 inch coil then I will be truly unstoppable and my quest for world domination will be almost complete. Muh hah ha!
On May 1st, I found three rings with my excalibur. One tungstun carbide ring, one junk ring and one small Gold ring.

Here are the other rings I found in April. I don’t find only rings, I also find lots of other things. Money and tons of trash so don’t think that it is quite so simple. Remember just like everything else in life, hard work and determanation really do pay off and you have to dig through a lot of garbage to get to the good stuff.
