Minelab Excalibur strikes gold again!

I was lucky enough to be able to hunt the beach early this morning. The weather over the weekend was warm and the beach was full of half naked bodies covered in slippery suntan oil. Ahhhh, this is always a good recipe for metal detectors.

I surveyed the beach as I drove, looking for that perfect spot to stop and I spotted it. There appeared to be a nice fresh rip that had moved quite a bit of sand away. You should always hit these spots immediately because the tide or the wind will fill the rip full of sand and all of the goodies will become unreachable again.

I starting getting targets right away and the rip went for about a half mile. Right when I was about to turn around, I got a nice strong signal. I hit it with my scoop. My Minelab Excalibur told me that whatever was in the hole was no longer there, that could only mean one thing. It was in my scoop. I rinsed the sand away and laying in the bottom was this nice 14k gold ring!

If you are thinking about getting into the hobby of metal detecting and you want to try your luck at the beach you should really think about getting a Minelab Excalibur. They can be found new here! If you want to save some serious cash and who doesn’t, then you can find some great deals on used Minelab Excalibur’s right here.

Minelab Excalibur Hip Mount

I recently purchased a Minelab Excalibur and could not be happier! It has found me quite a bit of loot already. My only complaint was that it was a little heavy and my arm got tired quick.  I have seen other metal detectorists using the Minelab Excalibur with a hip mount and decided to make my own. After a few hours swinging your Minelab Excalibur, you might want to hip mount all of the hardware and remove some of that strain from your arm. If you don’t get tired as quick that means that you have more time to hunt, which means more loot to find.

I decided to to my make my own Minelab Excalibur Hip Mount. It is very easy to make and it cost me less than two dollars. Here is what you will need to make the Minelab Excalibur Hip Mount.

Nylon Screws and nuts. Take your battery pack to the hardware store and match up the correct sizes.

An old belt. I used a strap from an old life jacket that I had. It has a snap clip so I know when it is locked tight and plus it is easily adjustable.
Now putting it together couldn’t be easier.  Simply thread the belt through the nylon bolts like the pictures below.
I snap mine in the back this leaves all of the controls right at my belly for easy access. I have used it several times and it works great and the best thing is I don’t get tired!
