The Wheat
penny was first introduced on 1909 to commemorate the 100th
anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The wheat penny was
designed by Victor D. Brown. His initials can be found on
a highly collectible Wheat penny known as the V.D.B wheat
penny. The initials appear on the back in a limited quantity
of wheat pennies created in 1909. This VDB wheat penny is
any many coin collector's want list and can probably be found
on auction in the list below. It always fetch's top dollar
so if you have a VDB wheat penny and don't know it's value
then you are in for a surprise.
The wheat penny was also the first
cent to include the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
